What it is

Automated combustion optimization for heavy-duty gas turbines

ECOMAX+ uses live combustion and turbine data to continuously evaluate the operating state of the unit, constrain tuning actions within defined limits, and adjust combustion parameters to support performance, flexibility, reliability, and compliance outcomes.

ECOMAX has a long operating history in gas turbine auto-tuning. Under NAES, the platform is positioned within a broader performance-optimization environment that connects software, controls, engineering, operations, maintenance, reliability, compliance, and lifecycle support.

Indicative results require confirmation through site-specific baseline review, operating-profile analysis, fuel pricing, test basis, and engineering validation.

The operating reality

Static tuning cannot keep pace with changing plant conditions

Traditional tuning is often performed after outages, during seasonal windows, or when specific issues appear, a fixed tuning point in a plant environment that does not stay fixed. Weather, fuel, machine condition, dispatch requirements, controls drift, and emissions margins all move over time, and as they move, the turbine's best operating point moves with them.

ECOMAX+ is designed to address this gap through continuous optimization based on live turbine and combustion data, re-evaluated as conditions change rather than tuned once to a single assumed condition.

What ECOMAX+ manages

Six variables, one optimization decision

NOx and CO

Supports emissions management through configured guardrails, CEMS basis, site limits, and operating constraints.

Combustion Dynamics

Monitors acoustic behavior and dynamics indicators that can affect hardware stress and reliability.

Flame Stability

Helps maintain stable combustion while avoiding operating conditions that can increase blowout exposure.

Output and Heat Rate

Supports plant-specific output and heat-rate objectives while respecting configured operating limits.

Turndown

Supports extended operating flexibility at lower loads where the turbine, HRSG, controls, and permit basis allow.

Hardware Exposure

Helps manage operating conditions that can affect liners, fuel nozzles, coatings, and other combustion components.

Why operators choose ECOMAX+

Four advantages, one platform

Performance

Helps the unit operate closer to the optimal firing-temperature target, recovering output hidden by conservative seasonal tuning and balancing heat rate against emissions and dynamics, while maintaining configured limits.

Flexibility

A continuously managed operating envelope can create value at both ends of the load range, supporting extended low-load operation, ambient resilience, and adaptation to fuel-composition and dual-fuel changes within configured limits.

Reliability

Helps interrupt instability before it becomes lifecycle cost by monitoring combustion dynamics and flame-stability indicators and constraining tuning actions against acoustic and emissions limits.

Compliance

Manages tuning moves against operator-defined NOx and CO margins on the site CEMS basis, supporting emissions compliance while the unit pursues performance and flexibility objectives.

The ECOMAX+ decision loop

Measure. Constrain. Adjust. Verify.

ECOMAX+ operates alongside the existing turbine control system, it is not a replacement for the turbine controls, but a standalone optimization controller configured to the site-specific machine, control platform, emissions basis, combustion hardware, sensors, and operating limits. The operator stays in the loop.

01 · Measure

Collect validated live turbine and combustion data, emissions, dynamics, flame stability, ambient and fuel conditions, and turbine operating state.

02 · Evaluate

Identify the current operating condition and determine whether an optimization opportunity exists.

03 · Check Limits

Confirm NOx, CO, combustion dynamics, flame stability, permissives, operating modes, and customer-defined margins.

04 · Calculate

Determine a bounded tuning move within the configured authority of the system.

05 · Command

Send the authorized adjustment to the turbine controls.

06 · Verify

Monitor the response before any additional tuning actions are taken.

Scalable by design

Start with core auto-tuning. Expand as value is proven.

Core Auto-Tuning

The foundation of ECOMAX+, combustion optimization, NOx and CO management, dynamics and flame stability, output, heat rate, and turndown. The recommended starting point for most evaluations.

NAES Optimizer

A pathway for existing ECOMAX customers to migrate into a modern product-suite environment with controls and HMI improvements and future module integration.

Wet Compression Manager

Adjusts key combustor and turbine parameters to help mitigate the emissions and combustion-dynamics impact of high wet-compression flows.

Life Companion

Tracks factored fired hours and factored starts to connect operating decisions, including peak-power operation, to their parts-life impact.

HRSG Turndown Manager

Supports extended turndown while accounting for combined-cycle and HRSG constraints.

Module availability, naming, and scope should be confirmed during solution development.
